Save Tonight... Eagle-Eye Cherry

A friend of mine recently told me that I am "Catholic and I mean it". I find that kind of funny, but a pretty good compliment. In high school and college I was much more active in my faith. On one of the retreats that I went to, a group of fellow students did a skit about The Last Supper. They used the song "Save Tonight". If you listen to it and think about it, this song is a pretty good fit.

Now everytime I hear this song, I think about that skit.

Save Tonight

"Go on and close the curtains
All we need is candlelight
You and me and a bottle of wine
Going to hold you tonight

We know I'm going away
How I wish....wish it weren't so
Take this wine & drink with me
Let's delay our misery

Save tonight
And fight the break of dawn
Come tomorrow
Tomorrow I'll be gone

There's a log on the fire
And it burns like me for you
Tomorrow comes with one desire
To take me away....it's true
It ain't easy to say goodbye
Darling please don't start cry
'Cause girl you know I've got to go
Lord I wish it wasn't so

Save tonight
And fight the break of dawn
Come tomorrow
Tomorrow I'll be gone

Tomorrow comes to take me away
I wish that I......that I could stay
Girl you know I've got to go
Lord I wish it wasn't so

Save tonight
And fight the break of dawn
Come tomorrow
Tomorrow I'll be gone...."

  1. I'm not a Christian anymore, but I'm pretty knowledgeable about it from upbringing. I felt like "Save Tonight" was about The Last Supper" the first time I heard it. I tell people, and they don't get it. Even the songwriter did not intend the connection. It's not a miracle, but a pretty cool coincidental fit to the drama of the Jesus story. Yes, I've become an atheist, but I'm not a hater. Peace. :)
